Here’s how Mouthpeace coaching works.
Mouthpeace coaching is either solution-based, tackling an immediate issue, or developmental and concerned with improving communication skills over a longer time horizon.
Solution-based coaching often means that you are staring down a problem and you would like some help to find a solution or gather a second opinion. People call us for solution-based coaching when they are facing an acute problem—like an angry boss, an upset client, a frustrating subordinate, or an infuriating colleague. People also call us for solution-based consulting when a high-stakes interaction—like a key client meeting or a major conversation with a boss or a subordinate—is right around the corner. In these instances, we help the client form a strategy to best achieve conversational goals while avoiding as many pitfalls and problem areas as possible. The first session typically maps out a strategy to address the problem, the second session reviews the subsequent conversation and distills a follow-on strategy, and the third session reviews both conversations, attempts to prevent future instances, and provides a maintenance strategy if needed.
Developmental coaching is a (finite) series of coaching sessions designed to improve an individual’s communication skills. Developmental coaching always begins with a single session to understand the range of communication competencies that the client might want/need to improve, and then provides a coaching plan to develop those skills. Sometimes, developmental coaching clients engage with Mouthpeace proactively to improve their communication skills. At other times, a developmental client comes to us because they are in a new job and need help getting traction with followers, or they are in an existing job but facing challenges that they want to develop permanent skills to overcome. In developmental coaching, most people see improvement in the first month and have made some lasting changes between the third and sixth month. For this reason, developmental coaching rarely lasts longer than six months.
Mouthpeace Consulting conducts both telephone and on-site coaching. Most of Mouthpeace Consulting’s on-site coaching is bundled as a part of a larger organizational consulting package, although individuals can purchase on-site coaching independent of organizational packages in half-day (up to four hours) or full-day (up to eight hours) increments.
Mouthpeace Consulting’s telephone coaching is available on one-hour increments. Expedited (same-day) phone consulting may be available for a higher fee.
